Playstation Makes It’s “Move” To Dominate The Wii
Yes, it’s inevitable that the Playstation Move will be compared to the Nintendo Wii. All the Wii fanboys will be calling foul, and criticizing for stealing technology from Nintendo. But c’mon, give me a break. Anyone with any kind of gaming industry common sense saw this happening the day the Wii hit the shelves. The only question I’m still wondering about, is what the hell took them so long. I mean, it was obvious from the beginning of the Wii and the PS3 battle, that the Wii was going to be a financial success, while the PS3 still struggle to this day to be profitable on it’s own. Even with the help of blu-ray beating out HD, Sony still struggles to make this amazing technology pay for itself. Shades of the beta-max players?
You have to wonder, how well the PS3 would have done, if the uber-console Wii had never hit the market. The PS3 was by all accounts far superior technology, and well positioned to dominate a market that up till the release of the Wii, was populated by hard core gamers. I must admit, that I myself was and still is one of those hard core gamers. But, if you check under the digital LCD big screen in my house, your going to find a Nintendo Wii. Believe me, it wasn’t my choice. My wife bought it. Yes, it true, she bought it for the kids, but here’s a woman that’s never paid a dime for a computer game in her life, or even dropped a quarter into a video game at the arcade, ready to shell out over $200 for a gaming console in their living room.
While, it may be true that Nintendo didn’t really invent the movement sensing technology at the core of the Wii, they certainly packaged it up in the most consumer palatable price package designed to make it a roaring success. It was inevitable, that Microsoft and Sony would eventually incorporate it into their consoles. And trust me, nobody is happier about that then I am. I just need to figure out a way to squeeze the Playstation Move into my entertainment console. It is getting a little cramped for room. What with Google TV ramping up to hit the shelves, I know it’s going to get crowded under there real soon. Hey Sony, any chance you want to include Google TV software into the PS3? Please please . . . pretty please.
