Deus Ex Human Revolution 2011 – Aren’t You A Little Excited?
While sequels and prequels are definitely way overdone in the movie and gaming world, there’s a reason why they do it. Because they work! And, they make a bunch of money. I know that reading about the latest in the Deus Ex universe has gotten me pretty excited. I played the original Deus Ex, because of the many similarities it had with another of my all time favorite computer games System Shock 2. No, I never played the original System Shock, and I know, that it was a seminal achievement in it’s time, but I’m just far too spoiled with the eye candy offered today, to devote hours playing a game that looks that old. I know I’m spoiled, so shoot me.
Anyway, while I wasn’t all that thrilled with the second Deus Ex game, I am pretty pumped with the third. Not that I’ve played it yet, but just from a little tidbit of a certain review I read. The review went on and on to say how much the gamed owed it’s look and graphics to the Blade Runner movie. Well, if there was ever a movie that I never ever get tired of watching over and over, it’s Blade Runner. In my mind, it’s still a science fiction masterpiece that has yet to be equaled by any that followed in it’s path. Color me a little skeptical with the previous reviewers comparison, but I had to see it for myself. After taking a look at the teaser trailer, I must admit, it does seem to true.
So, here I am now in the disturbing predicament of lusting over a game that doesn’t come out until next year. Usually, I don’t buy a game till it’s been on the shelves for at least 6 months, since I’m such a cheap bastard. In this case however I suspect I’m going to have to crack open my wallet a little earlier. It may hurt in the beginning, but I have a feeling it’s going to feel pretty good after a while.
